2/9/10 Speedy Delivery '49 Ford Panel Truck Makeover Vehicle Update

The Panel Truck is out of the paint and body shop (Stowe Auto Body). They did a great job, beyond our expectations!! 

While there, the Chicago Brushmasters did the lettering and other work on the truck. This group of highly talented individuals donated their time and talent to help make this a great showpiece in exchange for helping them spread the news about 

their great cause and unique fund raising concepts. Midwestern stripers and lettering professionals create one-off pieces of artwork that they then auction off at the World of Wheels (March 5-7, Stephens Convention Center) and other venues. Proceeds go to the Ronald McDonald House Charities. We are proud to be associated with such a dedicated group. Please check out there website for more information and watch for future stories covering their work. Their work on the Panel Truck will be unveiled at the Race and Performance show on March 6-7 at Pheasant Run Resort in St.Charles. 

The truck is now at Hot Rod Playground in Plainfield, IL., there they will rewire the

 vehicle for us and install a back up camera and stereo system. We will keep you updated.

Gearhead News' '49 Ford panel van makeover project off to the 1st shop !

After the MCACN show all the small print was worked out and the project was underway. The first step was to strip the old 80's styled hot rod interior out for inspection and prep the rod for blasting and body and paint. We stripped the interior in house at our shop here at Gearhead News. Body and paint will be done at Stowe Auto Body in Lockport, Ill. Besides body and paint the guys are fabbing a new grille out of a '52ish Ford truck and frenching in new headlights. You see the old lights on it were mounted on the core support of the '77 Ford F150 chassis this thing is sitting on. This makes it a pretty good project for the guys. The rear doors are being replaced with "rust free" ones that we purchased out of a scrap yard. The other ones were just too badly trashed.

The guys at Hot Rod Chassis and Cycle are doing the rendering for the new rod and are also up to doing some fabrication for us as well. These guys do great work whether it is a traditional award winning rod or custom bike they can fill your needs from repairs and fabrication to installations and also body and paint.

Arnie's Auto Body Supply is supplying the paint and supplies needed by Stowe Auto Body to get the job done right. From paint to supplies the guys at Arnie's can set you up with what you need. The small town kindness when you enter the store to the very knowledgeable staff from the many years of being in business will keep you coming back. Arnie's has also offered to provide the Speedy Delivery '49 Ford with all the lettering needed.

Speedy Delivery, our '49 Ford pre-makeover project vehicle, was a big hit at the MCACN show. We are working on having a completed vehicle by the Race & Performance Expo on March 6-7, 2010. Monday Nov 16, 2009, 10am - (revised Nov 17, 5pm) Check out the rough pre-makeover '49 Panel at the MCACN show on Nov 21 & 22, 2009 at Donald E. Stephens Convention Center and then check out our finished rod "front and center" at the the Race and Performance Expo March 5-7 at Pheasant Run (St, Charles). That's right, we are going to try to get the project completed over the winter (90 days) with help from our great participating advertisers and other local companies. A Cooperative Hot Rod Makeover Project

Chicagoland Sun. Nov 15, 2009 - Check out our "Speedy Delivery" 1949 Ford Panel Makeover. With help from our advertisers, and other local companies, we aim to get together a cool rod that will be shown at the major indoor shows (World of Wheels, MCACN, Race & Performance Expo, World Drag Expo) and driven to local events throughout Chicagoland for the next couple of seasons. Progress will be seen in Gearhead News and online. We will be covering the local shops that participate and the steps and costs associated with getting a local rod or muscle car done.
